Creating a new team that adds to New Zealand’s sporting legacy.
SailGP is the most exciting race on the water. It’s more accessible than other yacht races, and fans can get closer to the action. The NZ SailGP team needed a new identity - one that represented all of New Zealand, and that sounds good in a cheer.
Introducing the Black Foils.
We worked alongside the team’s strategists and drivers to create an identity that would live up to the prowess of the team. “Black” ties the team to New Zealand’s sporting legacy, while “Foils” is inspired by the hull of the catamarans themselves.
The design evokes aerodynamic speed and precision, but is flexible enough to appear on everything from a website to a 24m high sail. We then developed a brand new look for the silver fern, built from the shapes of the Black Foils wordmark for a fern that’s dynamic and modern.
